More about Sensui

I really, really like this character. Many people do so (but recently I found many people in US didn't like him - anime image was bad I guess). May be he is actually my fav. Character in Yu Yu Hakusho. (I like too many of them anyways)

If there's no Sensui in YYH, I would say the whole story goes less then half attractive or even not 10% as attractive as this is now.

Sensui Shinobu 仙水 忍 (Japanese order, Sensui is family name), was once really innocent, born with an incredible power, protecting the human from demon. he has the natural talented to able to see demon from a young age, and could able to destroy them since he was a kid, naturally he believe demons are bad and harmful to hurt weak human, and to protect human to kill them.

As how pure innocent mind and how strong he is, Koenma found Sensui and turn him to a spirit detective, he was doing a great job at that time he was in high school (16 years old) ... but then 10 years after (the current time of the story ) he wanted to open the Gate of Demon's world and let all the powerful Demon come to living world and kill all the human. Why he turn 180° from protecting to killing, Togashi give you a really shocking reason to understand or even agree with it ...

Before Sensui lost his mind (or 'awake') as a Spirit detective, he met Itsuki. Itsuki is a demon and it said no demon can be alive after they have seen Sensui, but Itsuki was an exception – According to the original comic (NOT anime) Sensui see Itsuki just another demon to kill, and Itsuki was badly injured lying on the floor waiting to have Sensui finally hit to take his life. Sensui asked him “do you have any last word?” Itsuki stopped, then he said “tomorrow “hit radio”, Togawa Jyun (Japanese name 戸川 純 / とがわ じゅん , a 80s Japanese pop star/singer) will be in the show”...Then Sensui stopped and said "I watch it on time every week too ” -- they watch the same TV show!!! A very funny way they met, Sensui ever think demon could be so human as well, watch TV? Then he started to chat with Itsuki for an hour. Itsuki said he was amazed that a boy like Sensui, a skilled killer of a killer's facial expression could be as innocent as a baby.

In fact at that time even Sensui was killing demons, he was very innocent in mind and he believe in “justice” and “unjust” is absolute. Since he was kid he saw demons, he have the talent to kill them, so (according to his last word in the comic) he believe demons are bad and he is a justice fighter which god sent him to the world to help and protect the weak human from harm of evil demons. Demons are evil so of course he killed them, he didn't even think.

That night Sensui get an urgent case from Koenma and went to the building with Itsuki (whom become his partner after they met) where BBC located , saw the sense which he should have ever seen - human torturing helpless demons by horrible methods for fun and twisted desire, very bloody as well, which was completely different with what he has been believe, his mind couldn't hold the change and he scream out and went torn, he realize human that he spend his life to protect are actually an awful creature who could be acting real cruel for just 'fun'... then he murdered every human there and turn 180° from protecting human to against them.

He then stole the "chapter black" tape, which is a more then 30000 hours record of human's most torrible behavior (mostly in the war ) and disaapeared....... Itsuki support Sensui no matter what's he was going to do, so he was gone with him too.

Compare with Sensui, Yusuke is really lucky. He have heap of friends esp. Kuwabara, a mother who care about him and Keiko who love him deeply, a teacher like Genki who love him and teach him everything like Yusuke is her son, a smart friend like Kurama, even Hiei always being cold in fact he care about him too...and Yusuke born with a happy character so he take thing easier.. but Sensui, he was alone, always... he doing the battle alone all the time ...

Sensui's mind came up of 7 people inside. (Dissociated personality). Some people said this is from “Billy Milligan”, a real person from Canada in 80s who has 24 people in his mind. Sensui's personalities, just like Billy Milligan, have different names, sexes, ability, take responsibilities of different thing, the personalities can talk to each others and they do argue some time. At first Yusuke didn't know they were fighting with Sensui Minoru, pretty powerful, love to talk and discuss, argue, first Yusuke's side realized there's more then one person in Sensui was because Kazuya appears after Yusuke attacked Minoru. Later when the main personality, means the basic him Sensui Shinobu came out, wow he was so god damn powerful and of course I liked him the most too ( same as Itsuki lol) … Hiei and Kurama was swearing because even Sensui was a human, his energy was classified as a S-class demon, and his power is even rare in Demon's world, he could kill everyone really easily there.

The most powerful human in YYH surely is Sensui, and he even process sacred energy (literally it was “holy light energy”) , which is the final, most powerful energy a human could have, even Genkai, a kiss ass old lady spend her whole life couldn't get it, and sacred energy counteracted Koenma's Mafukken, which was the most powerful and sacred spell could even capture S-class Demon … and don't forget when he was doing that battle with Yusuke's side, he was dying because of the virus! What if he wasn't sick? After he killed Yusuke (before Yusuke's demon dad wakes him up…), he was fighting alone with Kurama+Hiei, 2 A classed Demons and Kurabawa who have his dimension sword and he was still winning … aren't you amazed?

I was really crying when I read the comic. After Yusuke dead, Sensui fight with Kurabara+Hiei+Kurama. Then Yusuke back to life as a demon with Koenma, Sensui looked at them all together talking and laugh, he thinks “finally, I meet some nice people. My determination seems fluctuated…” << and god damn, anime skipped that. This is important to this chapter, and many script as well >> … It was so sad when you see Sensui think this way, he seems lonely and miserable, at the end he fight with Yusuke he doesn't look angry anymore but enjoying the fight with him, and when Yusuke controlled by Raizen to shoot the spirit gun, Sensui looked back and smile … he didn't even try to defense and just let it happen, he was waiting to die by a demon's hand for his “guilt” of killing demons all his life … it was just too sad, his life is a tragedy… Some people said the “bad” guys in YYH are not all bad but they have their reason to do what they believe in a different way, like Toguro etc, but Sensui is more different, may be it was because he is a human so you would understand more of him…

About his last words, I think anime cut off half of it. In fact many of his script were changed and deleted, the reason I watch the anime was just because I love the comic too much. Here is my bad translation from the comic of Sensui's last words:

I wanted to come to Demon's world. This is the reason. When I was a child, I cannot understand that. “Why is that only I can see those creature?” “Why are they dislike me?” All the time I didn't know the answer, but my fighting technique keep improving.
"I believed I was sent to the world to be the justice fighter… I protect human by killing demons who are being harmful”… I believed the saying of dualism. (きっとボクは選ばれた正義の戦士で、あいつらは人間に害を及ぼす悪者なんだな安易な二元論に疑問も持たなかった。) In the world that other human wasn't able to see, I get used to sanguinary.

I believed there's good and evil, believed ‘war' means a good country fight with a bad country, Lovely thoughts isn't it? But then I was wrong. I realized all these years, the human I'm protecting were a heap of rubbish. ( 世の中に善と悪があると信じていたんだ。戦争も良い国と悪い国が戦っていると思ってた。可愛いだろ？だが、違ってた。オレが護ろうとしたものさえクズだった..)

I hated myself to bleed the same blood with this kind of creature (human).

Then I wanted to be born in Demon's world … to find out if the answer is right or wrong. When I realized I have not much time left, I've decided to do it at once. This is great I'm finally here…the tunnel to living world is a small gift for the resident in demon's world … my wish is to die in here… Urameshi (Yusuke)… when we were fighting you seems happy…this was the first time I found enjoyment in a fight. Thank you ….

Hope I can be born as a demon next life … ( 次こそ魔族に生まれますように )

Then Sensui dead. Itsuki said "Don't get close to him. that's enough. Let Shinobu rest in peace won't you?" and Itsuki walk towards Sensui, carry his body, his 'shadow hands open the other dimension. Itsuki taking Sensui in and said, "Shinobu said he don't want to go to spirit world after his death (死んでも霊界に行きたくない) . you cannot justice him by your standard. you people do not deserver Shinobu's soul." then the shadow hands started to close the dimension.

Itsuki continuous "We will spend the rest of our time quietly together. We had enough. You guys go and find some other new enemies and keep on your battle" ( 「これからは二人で静かに時を過ごす…俺達はもう飽きたんだ。 お前らはまた別の敵をみつけ戦い続けるがいい」 )Then they were gone....

Yusuke, Kuwabara, Hiei, Kurama and Koenma leave demon's world and this battle finished with a sad victory...
