( Urameshi Yusuke. 浦飯 幽助 ) Main character in the main four characters of the story. First thing is the name is in Japanese order, Urameshi is the family name and Yusuke is his first name. His special attack is to put all his spirit energy on his finger and shoot like a gun (so they call it spirit gun - 霊丸 )

He used to pick up fight with Kuwabara, who is another classmate when he was alive, after Yusuke came back to life and after some accidents they turn in to good friend and partner. He later met stronger Demon and defeated them, 2 of them turn to Yusuke partner – Hiei, the Demon who has 3 eyes and using darkness flame, Kurama, who was once Demon with a fox soul, Sliver hair and 7 feet body with fox ears and tail “Youko”, and turn into human in this life (still Demon …). Yusuke's teacher is Genkai, an old lady fighter.

In “Dark Tournament”storyline, Genkai gives him most of her Spirit Wave (Reiko Hado Ken) so Yusuke can stand a chance against Younger Toguro.

In “Gate of Demon's world” storyline, Yusuke awakens his Demon blood after he is killed (again), this time by Shinobu Sensui. It was a huge surprise as no one ever excepted Yusuke as a human would have a 44 generation ancestor is a Demon father. At that time Spirit world King ordered his fighter to avoid Yusuke awake as a Demon after his death, but it was too late and the spirit world fighter weren't strong enough to kill him.

In “the three kings” story, Yusuke is removed from his position as Spirit Detective because he is considered too dangerous for the Human.

After all, Yusuke is coming back just for Keiko, and Keiko is willing to wait for him.

( 桑原 和真 Kuwabara Kazuma ) He is not that good looking yeah, but he is the funniest character in YYH – ok he and Yusuke also really hilarious. Kuwabara can turn his energy in a sword (as a shape only).

In “Gate of Demon's world” storyline, Kuwabara awake of the symbol of his true power – the sword of dimension. He cannot control his own power to use this sword most of the time but only the normal energy sword, he can only pull out sword of dimension when his power reach to his maximum. Sword of dimension can cut off dimensions and this is what Sensui (strongest enemy in “Gate of demon's world” storyline) has been looking for.

Kurama (蔵馬), aｋａ Minamino Shuichi (南野　秀一）.

In his previous life he was an evil, cold hearted Demon thief known as Youko Kurama ( 妖狐 蔵馬 literally "Demon Fox Kurama"). Youko was badly injured he escaped into an unborn baby of a human woman and later was born as human child (Shuichi Minamino). This is the point where his personality began to change. He received so much love and care from his human mother and this turned him into a very kind, gentle and noble young boy. But deep inside his mind he still has his cruel and violent exist, in a different way.

He was no longer as powerful as Youko Kurama when he turned to human, but after battles he was getting stronger again. In “Dark Tournament”storyline, Kurama first have his Youko Kurama form back and his energy raise even higher (I like Youko Kurama more then Kurama btw)

Kurama shows a level of maturity even greater than most adults. He avoids the arcade and spends his time reading, and he speaks with a sophisticated language. He is the most imperturbable among four.

His ability is to control the demon's world plant, even normal plant can be his weapon. The one he use the most is Rose Whip ( 薔薇棘鞭刃), he insert his demon energy into the rose and made it to a whip which as sharp as a sword.

Hiei （飛影）possesses a third eye in the middle of his forehead, called Evil eye (邪眼). He hides it behind a bandana, revealing it only when he needs to use it. Under orders by Hiei, Shigure (時雨）, the demon surgeon, implant the Evil eye within him after he succeeded in attaining his asked price and telling him an interesting story, Hiei's own life. After the surgery, Hiei chose to accept Shigure's lessons in the art of swordsmanship in order to survive. (His original level of power as an A Class Demon was reduced to the lowest Class D because of the surgery.)

His power is darkness flame （ 邪王炎殺拳 ）he call from Demon world. His most powerful skill is “Dragon of the Darkness flame”（ 邪王炎殺黒龍波 ）. He has been looking for his twin sister Yukina, which is an Ice Demon (it was the reason he want to have his evil eye surgery) but even he found him he cannot tell her he is the brother because this is the payment to Shigure (Demon seems don't care money)

Koenma ( コエンマ ) , the son of Spirit world's king, first appears in the YYH series as a toddler, which Yusuke often teases him about. He is, however, at least 700 years old. His job in Spirit World is to decide who goes to Heaven or Hell. Some think this should be his father's job, but the King is always too busy on business trips most of the time. He comes off as a good leader and a nice guy for the most part, however animation version before "the gete of demon's world" story made him sounds really stupid most of the time.

In the Dark Tournament storyline, Koenma turn into his adult form (it's seems every time he come to human world he turn in to adult form), he had a Jr. sign on his forehead, and still has his pacifier.

In “the gate of demon's world” storyline, it first explained why would Koenma carried the pacifier in his mouth for most of his existence, it was to storing up his spirit energy. When the it's full powered, it creates the Mafukkan ( 魔封環 , literality, Demon-blocked-besieged), Spirit World's most powerful defensive spell. Depending on how much energy Koenma places in the pacifier, he can seal demons of varying strength. At the time of the story, Koenma can seal an S class apparition with ease.

Botan ( ぼたん literality, peony), is a herald/guide from spirit world. Spirit world herald's job are to lead death people's soul to spirit world, but when first Yusuke dead at the first chapter and met her, she told Yusuke that he actually shouldn't pass away at that time. Later on she is an assistant of Yusuke for being a spirit detective.

Botan is not a fighter like those around her, he has no spirit powers but she possesses heightened spirit awareness.

Yukimura Keiko ( 雪村 螢子) , Yusuke's childhood friend (as most likely, lover). Yusuke and Keiko are closer to each other than they would like to admit. Keiko's parents run a ramen restaurant.

At the began of the story, Yusuke is hit and killed by a car. Keiko was heart broken but then later she and Yusuke's mother realized Yusuke didn't really pass away. When Yusuke came back to life Keiko just tried to support him from behind no matter what's Yusuke going to do, but at the last chapter Keiko decided to break up with him.

But than at the end, they are still together.

Urameshi Atsuko（浦飯　溫子）, Yusuke's mom. She gave birth of Yusuke when she was 15 and live with only Yusuke at the moment. A cool mom who smoke all the time.
